Butterfly Shadows
Amidst the crowds
Teeming with familiar scents, familiar places
Always flitting from face to face
Not alone, but always lonely, the unsocial butterfly dances
Never stopping, never ending, through the ages
The clock hands cease to still, time steady as a heartbeat
Those around drift away, fading from view, fading into memory
Illusions in the warm breezes, never forgotten in a butterfly’s shadow
Out of breath, out of time, the weary wings droop as clouds obscure the sunlight
Sagging against its tree, still-beating heart aching, tired beyond measure,
Alone on its branch, desperately clinging to it as the wind s
